Why did you choose to create your vegan protein using only pea protein?Updated 7 months ago

There are a few reasons we make our vegan protein with only pea protein.

1. It was at one point believed that you need to consume a complete protein (a protein containing all 9 essential amino acids) at one time. Individual plant based proteins are not complete (or are very very low in one or more of the 9 essential amino acids) so the idea of combining plant proteins was to bring together ""complementary"" proteins (meaning together they have sufficient amounts of all 9 essential amino acids).

More recent research has shown your body does not need to consume complete proteins to ""make use of"" the protein. Instead, through a varied diet, over say the course of a 24 hour period you can consume protein from various sources that are ""complementary.""

Now that we have established that you do not need to consume complete protein in a single serving, the reasons we chose pea protein are:

1. Grown in Canada - 90%+ of the plant proteins on the market are grown in China or Asia. I prefer to source from Canada for many reasons including soil health (lower heavy metals)

2. High in amino acids that are needed in higher amounts when building or maintaining lean muscle - the amino acid profile of pea protein is better suited for this than say rice protein

3. Complementary proteins to pea protein are already consumed in high amounts in people's diets - somewhat like the above, but rice protein for instance is high in amino acids that you are already getting if you are eating rice and other grains"
